RE-HOMING CRITERIA

Before taking an animal home you will be asked a lot of personal questions and we would expect you and anyone who will be at home with the animal to spend some time with it at the shelter.

We will not normally allow a dog that came to us as a stray, and therefore has no background, to be homed with a family that includes children under 10 years of age.

Puppies / kittens / cats may be homed with any family, with or without children, that meets the normal criteria.

We will re-home a cat or dog with a known background to a family with young children if we have been assured that there have been no problems with any children in the previous home.

No cat/dog will be re-homed through a family member to another person (eg. An elderly parent) not living in the same household.

From time to time at Cheltenham Animal Shelter we have to take in puppies. They are housed in these puppy kennels which have been specifically designed for puppies until a new home can be found for them.

Having adequate facilities should always be taken into consideration when re-homing a dog.

All dogs like to run around and stretch their legs and as you can see if they have a friend to play with they are very happy.

Dogs like to play with some sort of toy so make sure you have a supply of different toys which will allow them to interact with you and other dogs.

Cats will not normally be re-homed in upper storey flats or where houses front onto a main thoroughfare.
Remember cats like to have room to exercise in as well and a garden or fields to explore.
Toys and scratching posts are always a good buy and can be purchased direct from our shop when you decide on the pet you would like to re-home.
Due to the temporary closure of our Re-homing Cattery we will not be taking in any Cats until further notice. If you would like to help us with our appeal to re-build our Cattery, please follow this link.

If you live in rented accommodation you will be asked for proof of permission from your landlord allowing you to keep pets.

NO ANIMAL IS PUT TO SLEEP AT CHELTENHAM ANIMALS SHELTER UNLESS A VETERINARY SURGEON HAS DECLARED IT TO BE THE KINDEST ACTION TO TAKE.
